Brain Injuries
3 Social Media Tips for Brain Injury Claimants
If you sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a preventable accident, your family may be entitled to compensation — but securing a fair settlement or verdict means building a strong claim, and remaining active on social media is one of the most common ways claimants unintentionally undermine their own case.
1. Adjust Your Privacy Settings
Once something is posted online, there's no reliable way to fully contain it — but restricting your profiles to approved connections only adds a meaningful layer of protection.
2. Filter Any New Requests
While your claim is pending, don't accept friend or follower requests from anyone you don't actually know.
3. Avoid Posting Anything That Could Be Used Against You
There's no way to predict how a claims adjuster might interpret — or misrepresent — something you post. Until your case is resolved, avoid posting about:
- Your injuries
- Your recovery
- Your social life
- Your spending
It's also worth avoiding “checking in” to places you visit, and asking friends and family not to tag you in their own posts.
